Evolve 2009 is a diverse celebration of Charles Darwin and evolution with lectures, performances, and educational programs from the world's foremost scientists, writers, and thinkers, and artists. From February—June 2009, San Francisco institutions and organizations such as the California Academy of Sciences, the San Francisco Public Library and Friends of the SFPL, the San Francisco Zoo, the San Francisco Botanical Gardens, the Commonwealth Club, the San Francisco Jewish Community Center and many more will come together with programming and events that commemorate the bicentennial of Charles Darwin’s birth and the 150th anniversary of the publishing of his seminal work The Origin of Species.
Programs will include lectures and presentations on Darwin, plant and animal diversity, sustainability of life on earth, and the application of evolutionary theory to such wide and disparate subjects as psychology and education. Throughout San Francisco, 2009 will be the year we reflect on what it means to evolve!
